A practice since 1950
Three generations of the Digges family have cared for patients on Bellevue Road, and many local families have stayed with us from their children's first check-ups through to grandchildren.
Assessment before treatment
Every treatment plan follows a clinical examination and, where needed, imaging. You get options and a written quote, not a sales pitch.
Cover and claiming
Claim on the spot with HICAPS for most private health funds, and we are a CDBS provider for eligible children.
General and specialist care
General, cosmetic, orthodontic, implant and surgical dentistry under one roof, with referral to registered specialists when appropriate.
The implant process, stage by stage
Consultation and CBCT
Clinical examination and 3D scan to assess bone volume, gum health and your medical history. Treatment options and fees discussed.
Preparation
Gum disease is treated and stabilised first. If bone volume is insufficient, grafting may be recommended, with healing time before placement.
Implant placement
The post is placed under local anaesthetic, typically a 60–90 minute appointment. A healing abutment or temporary tooth is fitted.
Healing
The implant integrates with the bone over roughly three to six months, depending on the site and how you heal.
The final tooth
Impressions are taken and the definitive crown, bridge or prosthesis is fitted, followed by review appointments and home-care advice.
Your implant dentist
Implant treatment at Bellevue Hill Dental is provided by Dr James Digges, who assesses, plans and places implants at the practice and follows your case through to the final crown, bridge or prosthesis.
Where a case needs specialist input, such as complex bone grafting or sinus work, we refer you to a registered specialist and coordinate your care with them.
All of our dentists are registered with the Dental Board of Australia. Registration details can be verified on the Ahpra register of practitioners.

Implant questions we are asked most
How long does the whole process take?
An uncomplicated single-tooth case commonly takes around six months from extraction to final crown, most of which is healing time. Grafting adds several months. Your dentist gives you a case-specific timeline.
Am I a suitable candidate?
Most adults in good general health are. Bone volume, gum health, medical conditions such as poorly controlled diabetes, certain medications including bisphosphonates, previous radiotherapy to the jaw, and smoking all affect suitability. Implants are not placed in patients whose jaws are still growing.
What are the risks?
Implant surgery is an invasive procedure. Possible risks include infection, bleeding, swelling, bruising, nerve or sinus involvement, and failure of the implant to integrate, which is more likely in smokers. All risks relevant to your case are explained before you consent.
How long do implants last?
Implants are a long-term restoration, but they are not maintenance-free. Longevity depends on gum health, home care, professional cleaning, whether you grind your teeth, and smoking. Crowns and prostheses may need repair or replacement over time.
Is an implant always the best option?
No. A bridge or a partial denture is sometimes the more appropriate choice depending on your bone, your other teeth, your medical history and your budget. Your dentist will go through all options with you, including doing nothing.
Does it hurt?
Placement is done under local anaesthetic, and sedation can be arranged where appropriate. Some swelling and discomfort afterwards is normal and usually managed with simple analgesia. Individual experience varies.
